I’ve been a little quiet... here’s why ✈️
You may have noticed it’s been a little quiet over here—and I just wanted to say I’m sorry for the pause. The silence wasn’t because I’ve lost passion for this community (far from it!). I’ve been off the grid, traveling across Europe with my husband on one of the most unforgettable trips of our lives. Now that I’m home, I couldn’t wait to share it all with you—and tell you how I prepared my body to take on some pretty intense travel days as an amputee.
Two Countries, Endless Adventure
Our journey took us to Turkey and Spain, two places that couldn’t be more different and yet equally rich in culture, beauty, and surprises.
In Turkey, we explored Istanbul, where old-world energy meets modern bustle. We ate our way through hidden alleys and open-air markets during a Culinary Backstreets food tour—highly recommend if you love getting a taste of real, local life.
From there, we flew to Kapadokya, and yes, we did the thing you see in all the postcards…
we took off at sunrise in a hot air balloon, watching the valleys and rock formations glow below us. It felt like floating through a dream.
Spain brought a whole different kind of magic. We spent time in Barcelona, wandered the storybook streets of Girona, and soaked up the sun along the Costa Brava coastline.
One of my favorite memories? A hands-on cooking class that gave us an authentic taste of Catalan cuisine (and taught me how to make the tastiest paella I’ve ever had).
And then there was the sea. We kayaked and snorkeled in the Mediterranean, exploring secret coves and sparkling blue water that honestly felt like something out of a movie.
Prepping My Body for Grueling Travel Days
Traveling with limb loss means planning ahead—especially when you know you’re about to be walking miles, climbing stairs, and sitting through long-haul flights. Before we left, I focused on:
Strengthening my residual limb and core for better endurance and balance
Mobility work to prevent stiffness from flights and long drives
Carrying compression gear for plane days and staying ahead of swelling
Being honest about my limits (but also challenging myself gently)
This trip tested me physically in the best way. I felt prepared, strong, and capable—which made the whole experience that much more rewarding.
I’ll be sharing more over the next few weeks, including travel tips for amputees, how I adapted to different terrains, and some hilarious behind-the-scenes moments (like trying to put my leg back on in a kayak... more on that soon 😂).
Thank you for sticking around. It means everything to me. If you’ve ever wanted to take a big adventure but felt unsure of how your body would handle it—I hope this gives you a little spark of possibility.
With love and a slightly sore but happy body,
Angelina
